Novella Review – Judith Ortiz Cofer, “The Myth of the Latin Woman”

[ad_1]

In “The Myth of the Latin Woman” Judith Ortiz Cofer breaks down the many stereotypes America has against Hispanic women. She cites a couple of common incidents that happened to her, and many other Latino’s, because of the stereotypes people have against Hispanics. The author met a man who recited “Maria” from West Side Story and another time she walked in a boat-restaurant to give her first poetry reading, and an older woman mistakenly thought she was a waitress.

The way Latino’s dress comes from a tradition in their culture. In Puerto Rica, there are many different colors all over and thus, the girls were colorful clothes and show a lot of skin because it’s hot. However, in America, people think that Latin girls were colorful clothes and show a lot of skin because they are whores or easy to get with. The author proves this is untrue after going to her first high school dance with a boy who tried to kiss her. She rejected the kiss and he mentioned something about Latin girls maturing early. The author, having learned how to deal with these situations, simply walks away.

I think that most, if not all stereotypes, are simply incorrect and have no point. It is prejudice to think certain groups of people have to dress, behave, or do anything in a certain way. Everybody is free to act as they like. If a group of Latino girls were raised to dress and act a certain way, it is a cultural issue and should not be ridiculed by anybody. I firmly believe we all have the right to do what we feel is right, and others should not interfere with that.

Features of a Dynamic Industry

[ad_1]

A dynamic industry is a growing industry. The features of a dynamic industry are indicators that enable us to know that the industry is growing by their mere presence. The Plateau music industry is a paradox as it is young and old at the same time. It is old in the sense that it has recorded niggard growth despite the relatively long period during which it has been alive.

A growing industry should have people with big dreams and are determined to actualize the dreams by following the narrow path, which inevitably leads to righteousness. It appears that 70% of our artistes prefer the speed lane even when it is obvious that speed kills. In a growing industry the artistes should be patient to learn how to write good songs and make good instrumentation by working with good instrumentalists or good studio engineers. In that wise a growing industry should also have good instrumentalists or studios engineers.

One important characteristic of a growing industry is the presence of analysts/critics. These are those who look at the various components of a piece of music and comment on them. The commentaries can be positive or negative. In a growing industry the person criticized should also be ready to tolerate the criticism in-as-much, as the criticism must be constructive. Constructive criticism can sometimes take the form of reviews. Music review is a hallmark of an industry that is growing.

For one to be a good music analyst he himself must have enough knowledge of the business to enable him succeed. Some have the knowledge but choose not to play. Others have the knowledge and are playing successfully. Others have played successfully and have taken a bow. It is however rare to get a performing musician to criticize the works of his colleagues. Hence the other two are the only ones in a good position to make both positive and negative commentaries about the works of artistes.

In Jos, however, it is difficult to point to a single person that can be referred to as a music showbiz commentator especially in the area of music. Part of the reasons are that certain people don’t enjoy giving unsolicited commentaries or are afraid that certain persons may take it personal following such comments on their projects. Hence tolerance of criticism is also a feature of a dynamic industry as it leads to improvements.

But the seeming non-existence of music analysts in our community could also be due to the absence of a medium of expression. In developed countries there are TV and radio stations dedicated to music. There could also be magazines, newspaper columns or the whole print medium wholly dedicated to the cause. Here we have music shows on radio and TV that do not, however, have provisions for music analysis. This could be because it did not occur to the presenter to make provisions for such. If the community shows it is craving for such, it definitely, will occur to one or two presenters to introduce them in their shows.

This is not to say that the music industry is not growing at all but the chameleon speed is giving a lot of cause for concern. The presence of such crucial rallying points will no doubt increase the momentum of the industry so that we can begin to look beyond Jeremiah Gyang and P-Square.

Michael Card Songs – Don’t Keep Them in a Box

[ad_1]

Some Michael Card Songs that appear on certain albums appear to be written for a certain purpose. What if we expand their purpose? What if their value is NOT   unique  to a certain group or time of year?

1. Song of Jesus

Song of Jesus is written to be calming. It is supposed to help assuage fears and worries so that sleep might be attained. Did you stop having fears and worries when you outgrew your crib? It is possible, even likely, that your fears and worries increased the older you got. Song of Jesus has an encouragement to trust and rely upon Jesus. This is not a message outgrown.

This song is on Michael Card’s Sleep Sound in Jesus album. It is supposed to be a lullaby. It is a lullaby. But, why limit it to the lullaby category? As with many of the songs on this album, they are enjoyable for adults too.

Favorite line: “If He could cause the storm to clear, He’ll calm the tempest of your tears. If He could cause the dead to rise, at dawn He’ll open up your eyes.”

2. Joseph’s Song

Often sung during Christmas time, this song is written from the viewpoint of Saint Joseph, the foster father of Jesus. He is wondering how in the world is he supposed to be the guardian of God’s son. Saint Joseph is overwhelmed. Joseph would not have been the first person and certainly will not be the last person to feel unqualified to accomplish what God has asked of her/him. His situation is profound. People can relate to being overwhelmed by their circumstances. However it does not stop being profound and relatable come January, February or even September. So listen to this one all-year-around.

The best line in the song is, “Father, show me where I fit into this plan of yours.” This sentiment is something many believers struggle with during any time of the year.

3. Come, Worship the Lord

This song is based on Psalm 95. It is a call to worship the Lord. The title of the Psalm in the Bible is “A Call to Praise and Obedience.” Michael Card was criticized for his work on this song. He probably would not have been if he had written it. Come, Worship the Lord was written by John Michael Talbot, a Catholic. The two combined their works in the album Brother to Brother. The album contained some of each of their songs and all of them were performed as duets by the praise and worship songsters.

Praising God is not limited to Catholics. Praising God is not limited to Protestants. Why would anyone who believes in God be offended by someone praising Him?

Favorite line: “Come, let us bow down and worship, bending the knee before the Lord, our Maker.”

Review of Secrets of Millionaire Investor Book by Adam Khoo & Conrad Alvin Lim

[ad_1]

Before this book, I had no idea about what were the true techniques to invest in the stock market. When I saw this book on the shelve of bookshops, I immediately turn its pages to check it’s content and was pleasantly surprised at the level of detail and coverage of investing in the stock market. Impressed with what I read, I bought it without hesitation.

After reading this book and applying some of the lessons taught, I can say that I am a better investor in the stock market now. Before, I was only a rookie. I will explain to you why.

This book teaches both the fundamental aspects of selecting stocks which Adam will show you. The technical aspects to trading is illustrated by Conrad who traded his way out of bankruptcy using very good strategies. He easily makes US$5000-US$7000 a month trading stocks and options. That can replace anybody’s salary anytime, won’t you agree? His record is US$22k++ in a single month.

One of the important concepts mentioned early in the book is to invest in the stock market and use the power of compounding. You can be an automatic millionaire by the time you retire using this technique. All you need is patience and some consistency in investing. This was how Warren Buffet became the richest man by investing in the US market and let his investment returns compound.

The rest of the book explains four strategies to grow your funds in the stock market depending on which level of an investor you are currently at with the returns and time horizon you are looking at.

The first growth strategy is the most basic level for novice investors which teaches you to achieve compounded returns of 10%-12.08% annually by buying the market or buying sectors or industries that are outperforming.

The second growth strategy shows you about value investing which can achieve you an annual return of 15%-25%. This method requires you to buy great companies at huge discount and sell them for a huge profit. Warren Buffet uses value investing to pick his stocks. You will learn the nine criteria of value investing to pick stocks that investors like Warren Buffet or George Soros would.

The third growth strategy explains to you about momentum investing which you can achieve a higher return of more than 25% at a shorter time like 3 to 6 months. This involves picking stocks that are about to increase in price significantly due to market optimism. Adam shows you seven steps to screen for this kind of stocks.

The last growth strategy is the most advanced of all, which allows you to net a handsome 100%-500% returns in one day to 3 months. This strategy involves the buying and selling of stock options which is trading. Trading allows you to make money in any direction, be it up, down or sideways. The authors have dedicated 2 chapters to explain the fundamentals of options and clearly illustrated with examples on a few commonly used strategies for reader.

I enjoyed this book very much as it was clearly written and provided a practical approach to investing and trading. This book has given me a good foundation as a beginner to prepare me for more advance strategies and implementation. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants to start investing or trade in any stock market and does not know how to start.

Right from module 1, the author reveals the fast action guide and shows you how to use it to start earning some money in the next 48 hours. If you join Cell Phone Cash, make sure you implement the fast action guide. I have tried it and it works very well for me.

The only qualm I have for this product is that there is a recurring monthly fee of $25. But I think this is a small price to pay because you’re going to get new strategies and methods to help you dominate the mobile phone market every week. So for me, I treat the monthly fee as a small business expense.

Conclusion:

This course is worth checking out if you’re interested in dominating the mobile industry.

Pie, An Old Brown Horse by Kandy Kay Scarmuzzo, A Book Review

[ad_1]

The title is a little misleading. Pie may be an old brown horse now, but he was nothing of the sort during the story. Kandy brought that personable horse to life like he was almost one of us. As we all know, animals have feelings, thoughts and ways to communicate just like we do. Even though some, and maybe a lot of people, don’t think about this in a very in depth way, Kandy proves that to be our oversight and sadly our loss. Because as you read the story, the thoughts, and emotions of how Kandy presented these majestic animals is nothing short of enthralling, entertaining, and enlightening.

Sometimes you just had to laugh out loud, as Pie literally thought like an animal would at our crazy antics, and his simplistic and natural understanding of how life just is. We make it complicated, and they bring it back to basics and fun.

Reading about Pie and his story made you really wish you could have gotten to know him, even enjoyed some of the same events with him. To have known and spent time with him would have been a cherished privilege. Knowing the owners of Pie could teach all of us the meaning of unconditional love.

As you learn from this book, taking care of a horse or more, is not for the faint of heart. It is work, money, time, and emotion, but the rewards are so much greater than what is given, that the comparison is actually impossible. For those who do it and have done it, like the owners of Pie, they wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Pie calls the owner, keeper. His love, thankfulness, appreciation and admiration of keeper is obvious, and just as obvious is, it’s well deserved. I am sure the keeper is the author, and I am sure you will see, as I did, that the spirit of the keeper is nothing short of incredible. It is apparent that unconditional love is as central to her core as the automatic beating of her heart. People like this should be respected and emulated. Pie knew this and showed her and his charge, little one just how much love he had to give back.

This story should be read by everyone, and really should be a required reading in schools everywhere. It is not only enjoyable and entertaining; it is educational in more ways than you can imagine. Thanks for the privilege of reading and writing a review of your book Kandy. It was a great pleasure.

Papo Dilophosaurus Dinosaur Model Reviewed

[ad_1]

Papo Dilophosaurus Dinosaur Model Reviewed

Papo, the France based manufacturer of figures and replicas have added a Dilophosaurus dinosaur model to their prehistoric animal model range and very good it is too. A member of the coelophysid group of Theropods, this lithe, agile hunter was probably the apex predator in Early Jurassic environments. Scientists have estimated that this carnivore could have reached lengths in excess of six metres. It may have weighed over five hundred kilogrammes, that’s twice as heavy as an African lion (Panthero leo).

Almost a Quadrupedal Pose

Although most definitely a biped, Dilophosaurus did have relatively long arms. The arms were much longer than those of later Theropods. The Papo figure has been balanced on its hind legs but as the body is bent forwards the right hand with its three-fingered claws is also touching the ground. This is a more than acceptable stance for a dinosaur model and it permits the design team to keep the hind feet of their replica in proportion to the rest of the animal whilst still permitting it to balance.

Lots of Detail and Beautiful Painting

Papo have made sure that they include lots of fine detail. Individual scales can be picked out along the flanks and the patterning continues onto the belly, which is not found in cheaper dinosaur models. There is a row of triangular scales running from the top of the head down the slender neck and there is even a tiny, white-painted row of scales running down under the jaw. The famous double head crest of this dinosaur has been painted a vivid crimson colour. Obviously, the artists at Papo believe that this thin crest served no defensive or aggressive role, but that it was probably used for visual communication amongst Dilophosaurs. The rest of the model is painted a dark tan colour with flashes of blue set out in a stripe pattern across the legs, the flank and along the back.

To Scale with Other Replicas

The model measures around 14cm in length, but as the tail curls around the body, it is actually much bigger than that, measuring around 18 to 19 centimetres in length. As Dilophosaurus (D. wetherilli) is estimated to have reached lengths around six and a half metres, we estimate that this figure is in approximately 1:34 scale. Size wise it fits very well alongside two other Papo Jurassic dinosaur figures, the Allosaurus and the plant-eating Stegosaurus.

Details Around the Mouth

Unlike other predatory dinosaur models made by Papo, the jaw is not articulated, it does not open. However, this is more than made up for by the superb details that can be seen around the mouth. The distinctive curve in the premaxilla of this dinosaur is present and individual teeth have been skilfully painted – all credit to the production team.

This is an excellent dinosaur model, one that will prove popular with collectors and young dinosaur fans – highly recommended.

The Best “2nd Chance” Review You Will Ever Read

[ad_1]

Mirabelle Summers’ new book, “2nd Chance”, is great, and this review will make clear to you how much you can gain from it. I’ll warn you ahead of time that she writes in a totally objective manner, which is rare. This means that the book will work for you only if you possess the emotionally maturity to practice her techniques in order to get results.

This review can teach you, among other things…

2nd Chance Review: Summary of Strong Points

When a relationship ends, especially if you’re the dump-ee, it usually feels there’s no hope of resuscitating it. Most of the advice available out there is about how to put your life together and move along. (Of course, you could always beg, please, and whine in hopes of wearing your ex down so she takes you back, but that’s awfully weak and humiliating, besides which, it usually doesn’t work very well!)

What this book give you is an uncomplicated six-step method to reposition yourself to be a man of discernible value, a grown man who has learned lessons through his mistakes, and has become a much better person for it. It tells you just how you can avoid giving in to the instinctive responses that lower your value in the eyes of women, especially your ex, and convinces her that telling you to get lost was the wisest thing she ever did.

The course is laid out in simple, straightforward method. It assists you in surviving the mourning period that normally follows a breakup, then regaining your self-confidence and her trust. Most of all, it helps you get her thinking she’d be wise to give you another chance. Here’s a sample of what the book covers:

  • What to do about the ex who ignores you
  • How to get away from the “let’s just be friends” quandary
  • How to handle the situation when she’s gone on to greener pastures
  • What to do about the ex who has become indifferent and emotionally distant from you
  • How to cope with the perception that you have lost her love

I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out how valuable it is to have a truly objective female perspective on your side. This makes “2nd Chance” one of the most helpful guides available. It is probable that you know a female perspective can be misleading and confusing if it is subjective, but Mirabelle Summers is like one of those female friends all men need in their lives, to give us insider information.

She doesn’t hand you a lot of pointless twaddle about women and the challenges of relating to them. You get the full picture, and learn what makes women fall in love, what makes them fall out of love, and what may encourage them to fall back in love with you.

2nd Chance Review: Bonus Features and Conclusion

Search Engine Marketing – The Past, The Present, And The Future

[ad_1]

1997 – 1999 were the early years of search engine era. Internet Marketing and more specifically search engine marketing mainly consisted of submitting your sites to the search engines. These “voices from the past” are still heard today when this or that Search Engine Optimization company and / or automatic submitting software will claim to do search engine promotion for you by submitting your site to hundreds and thousands engines and directories. The search engines’ indexing programs, called “robots” or “spiders”, looked through all of the HTML code of a page and used some page ranking algorithms that they kept in secret.

Those days were spammers’ Heaven: it was rather easy to get your site ranked high. You could just use your keywords lots of times on the page, in the META tags, HTML comments etc. and hide it from the human visitors by making the text tiny or completely invisible with the help of HTML tricks. The search engines didn’t have any sophisticated technique to recognize this kind of spam, and such sites usually got high rankings very easily. Today, you still can find some samples of this primitive optimization (however you will have to give it a hard try, because nowadays most of such Web projects have been banned by the search engines for excessive keyword usage).

The only exception was Yahoo which has always been indexed by humans who could in most cases identify and ban spamming pages.

Gradually, search engines started recognizing spam and applying corresponding penalties to Web pages using spam methods. However, search engine optimizers were always one step behind the search engines in finding new ways of cheating the indexing algorithms. Hence each search engine is committed to delivering only relevant results to its visitors, the engines needed to take control away from the spammers and auto-submitters. Many began to try different ways of indexing.

The Rise of Google

If someone is asked today about the first search engine to remember, the answer will be Google in 100% cases. Google has started its way to be the King of search engines in 2000 and in 2002 its right for this title has been firmly established, with around 70% of searches done on the Internet. While other search engines were focusing on transforming to universal portals, Google kept a simple and – which has become its distinctive feature – fast interface that solely targeted delivering relevant search results.

Google also developed advanced features such as indexing and searching PDF (portable document format) and SWF (shockwave flash) files. Additionally, Google’s sophisticated techniques to use the “off-the-page” factors made it extremely spam-resistant. Google’s dominance has become steady in 2000 with Yahoo having switched from Inktomi to Google as secondary search result provider. Now, Yahoo uses the combination of Overture’s and own search software and index repository, thus being fully independent on Google, however, without any slightest impact on the dominance of the latter.

Global Consolidation

By 2001, the results of all major engines were produced from a number of mixed / hybrid sources. Yahoo search results combined Yahoo-directory listings, Overture (PPC) results, and Google results. MSN provided results from Overture (PPC), LookSmart , and Inktomi.

The years 2002 and 2003 brought major reshuffles among search engines: in this period, Google purchased Blogger.com, Yahoo bought Inktomi, and AltaVista and AllTheWeb became a part of Overture. Also, there were many shifts caused by emerging search engine partnerships. Further in this course we will give you a complete and actual chart of relationships between the contemporary search engines.

Search Engine Marketing Today

If you thought nowadays search engine marketing can still be done by acquiring (and using) an auto-submission software, drop this idea since now on. Search engine marketing requires an integrated approach to improving site content, quality and popularity. For a Web site to reach its top potential, it must incorporate target audience analysis, competitive analysis, cost per click optimization, and – last but not least – copywriting and copyediting. And, because things keep changing, search engine marketers need to devote a good deal of time staying on top of the SEO industry and its trends.

Today very few (and mostly inexperienced) optimizers / marketers would use spam methods to achieve high ranking. In many cases, spamming and the so-called “black-hat” SEO is recognized by automatic spiders, for these become more and more intelligent. Even though we describe major spamming methods in the end of this course, we do it only in the sake of your awareness. We do NOT recommend using them, as there’s no guarantee at all they can help, whereas it’s very possible that your Web visibility can be seriously damaged as a result.

The Future of Search Engine Marketing

Search engines have already developed into sophisticated systems, and no doubt they will continue to enhance their technical aspect, with improved capabilities to index pages that are located deeply within the site (many links away from the initial page). Also, their abilities to handle dynamically generated pages (e.g. shopping carts) can be expected to grow. Among other perspective trends are advanced non-HTML content indexing (such as PDF and graphics), improved ability to rapidly integrate new content such as news using XML feeds or other technology, organization of search results into logical categories (sometimes referred to as clustering), and other advanced features. For insights into the future of search, you could visit Google Labs ( http://labs.google.com). This is the beta area where Google showcases some of its upcoming technologies.

However, the traditional “highest-bidder” approach makes SEM feel more and more like traditional print advertising. The Integrated Approach to SEM anticipates that in future, best marketing efforts will aim to leverage the three components: paid advertising and analytics, all-sided site and content optimization and qualitative off-the-page factors enhancement. That is why we prefer to call the functions provided by Web CEO “Search Engine Marketing” rather than “Search Engine Optimization”. When all is said and done, it is the traffic you get and the way this traffic converts that matters – not even your site rank on a search engine. You can rank worse than your competitor, yet the percentage of your visitors that turn into buyers will be so high that you actually outperform your competitor several times.

His Dying Wish (Film Review)

[ad_1]

Have you ever watched a two-minute movie trailer and instantly knew you just had to see that movie? It didn’t matter if the movie was coming out in a month or if it was coming out in a one year. You just knew you had to see that movie. Well that is exactly what happened to me recently. Actress Crystal Nuchurch posted the trailer to her Facebook account in early January or February. It is a known fact that the purpose of movie clips or trailers are to entice the audience to make you want to see their film. Well this clip that I saw did not disappoint. It instantly drew me in with such force that I could barely wait the few months for it to premiere.

After viewing the many comments and likes on Facebook for the trailer I knew this movie was going to be big. And big it was. Almost every seat in the theater in Newark NJ was taken on June 9, 2016. Good thing I arrived early to get a good spot. I sat with my popcorn and beverage in hand as I waited for the drama to unfold before me. Five minutes into the film and there was a death that brought more than just emotional grief. Housewife Janet Harper portrayed by Crystal Nuchurch not only loses her husband Walt (David Harris) but she is about to lose her mind as well. Unbeknownst to her, her loving husband of over twenty years had a mistress. Talk about running as soon as you get out of the gate. Like other movie goers I yelled at the screen for Janet not to hit the much younger mistress Meagan (Carla Rodriguez) during a very tense moment. Janet’s witty yet hilarious neighbor Hannah (Faith B. Terrell) is by her side to help her get through this tough time. The suave attorney Steve (Ron Denson) tries to keep both women from killing each other. The film had its twists and turns that left me sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next. With the intensity of the scenes with a grieving wife and a mistress who holds a secret this film is something to be seen.

Writer Drica Armstrong and Director Larry Rosen put together a film and cast so beautifully that it literally made music. I truly enjoyed this film from the very beginning to the very end.
